5th Grade Music

5th grade students come to music class once a week for a 45 minute class session.

  • Vocalizing & tone matching (singing)

    • Solfege syllables and corresponding hand signs

    • Warm-up exercises

    • Song selections from: “Spotlight on Music” and “Music K-8” publications

    • Additional Songs (selected by teacher)

    • Using good tone quality

  • Musical Literacy- read notes & rests on the staff

    • Singing (and playing) scales

  • Rhythms (counting & clapping- up to sixteenth notes)

  • Rhythm & pitch composition

  • Composers and their lives, including…

    • Beethoven

    • Tchaikovsky

    • Joplin, Gershwin, Davis, Armstrong (ragtime, jazz)

Singing:

Throughout the school year we will be using singing a variety of music to learn musical concepts, as well as how to read and follow your line in multiple voice part sheet music.
